HI all
Just resently aquired a boat with a 1976 omc stern drive. How do you test run them out of water? I have used water muffs on outboards, but never have had a i/o before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

NO, not the same way. On the stringer drives the water pickup is located right above the prop on the underside of the cavitation plate, right behind the rudder tab. You can't put muffs on it. There is a hose flush adapter that goes into on of the pivot caps. IIRC it was an option at the time and not all drives had them. The port cap is shown in this pic:

Mine is a 1975 and came with one on the starboard side. If you don't have one, you can get a drum deep enough to submerge the leg and run the hose into it.

Welcome to iboats and the White Anchor club! (poor soul.....) :D:D

Just depends on the stern drive... Mine has water intakes on the lower unit which allows for rabbit ears...
