How do you rationalize the time you spend on iboats?

Kagee's thread about Internet addiction reminded me of something I have been pondering. I, obviously  , spend a lot of time here. I have a wife, three boys, a job, a few hobbies, future plans etc. Every minute that I spend on iboats is a minute that I don't spend on those other priorities. Knowing that, how can I rationalize spending even 10 minutes here? Personally, I feel like JB posted on Kagee's thread. Life is about communicating, learning etc. I believe that I honestly learn things here that benefit my family, and they don't have to listen to me make up a bunch of political carp which is a definite benefit to them . . . Also, my job is in limbo right now, new boss, trying to go public, nothing to sell in the states, so I have a lot of dead work time and I work at home when not traveling . . . Another rationale is that I like to write, and in that regard this is sort of a hobby too.

The younger guys on this site should be out looking for action . . . ;) and the older guys all have stuff they could or can be doing. Sorry, ladies, you too (or is that two?). Thoughts?

I Iboat at work only, during the times when nothing else is going on. It fills the day and gives me many things to ponder.

I don't know anybody that would be interested in spending weeks argueing about ricers- so I come here.

Usually I'm at work where I have a lot of down time. It's a hard job, but somebody's got to do it. :D

Re: How do you rationalize the time you spend on iboats?

This forum has helped me a great deal in overcomming years of keyboard fright and ineptness. I've been using a computer for years but my typing speed was always so slow. If someone walked up behind me, the pressure would render me useless. Very embarassing.
Now, my co workers are annoyed at the noise I make when writing an email or posting here.

I do not spend much if any time at werk at Iboats. Busy, and the IS Nazis. Take some time from home to visit 'cause this forum has the best folks I have met online.

And I have this derned trihull projy (endless) that was inspired by JJ. ONE of these seasons I WILL finish and float that boat!!!!!!!

Note: search the "Another Beast" thread in the resto forum if interested.

Agree with pjc.
.
I don't have to rationalize or justify being here. I am here because I enjoy being here and do get some info, other than the political arguments... :D
.
This is not meant to be harsh, I punched a clock for a lot of years and now don't have to so I do what I want..

Re: How do you rationalize the time you spend on iboats?

See I don't agree about the rationalize thing. You're right I don't necessarily have to rationalize anything to anybody else, but we ALL rationalize all of these things to ourselves. I am not ashamed . . . those two things are different.

You even have to rationalize owning a boat. Or going out to eat. Or watching TV, you may not consciously do it, but you do just the same.

I'll give you a good one that I am saving for another thread someday. What about rationalizing speeding? It's against the law, right? We all have our own little threshold, but again, I'm stealing from another thread idea I have . . . shhhh.
