Hi Guys,

When trailering how long distances on highways, how do you protect your gel coat from small stones that the car kicks back at 90mph.

I have been looking for some cover that is a bit thicker and protects the undercarrage of the boat

any info would be great

I use this. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp;jsessionid=XHX4AW4NZR30FTQSNOKCCO4OCJVZOIWE?id=0004108520080a&navCount=0&cmCat=srchdx&cm_ven=srchdx&cm_ite=src hdx&CM_REF=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Fsearch%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3Dultraguard%2Bcabelas&_requestid=5705

But if you're towing at 90 mph, especially with a "car," the little rock chips won't be noticed anyway....just lean on your insurance company to pay for the full value of your totalled boat when it pops a tire and your whole rig flips down the highway, and you'll never be able to boat again anyway since you'll be in a wheelchair. Sorry....couldn't resist. :D

Towing at 90? For real? Slow down and you might kick up a few less rocks.
I think you can get arrested for reckless driving towing a boat at 90. At least here in the states.

That was my initial reaction to his post as well tommays......which would be about 55mph. Seems plenty reasonable.(If it was indeed a typo)

I read this as "the rock is going 90mph reletive to the boat" not "I'm driving at 90mph and hit a stationary rock"

-JMW

OK, we all love you again ;)

I think mudflaps or something like craze1cars suggested is your best bet.

I've seen some trailering boat covers that cover a good portion of the bow section. I think they were custom covers, but I'd say they covered the first 6 feet of a 28ft boat. Velcro held it together on the bottom there.

i think the flapping, would cause more damage than, being uncovered.
