I have a 125/270 Volvo-penta.
after much tinkering and help from you guys it is finally running right.

Except my timing will not advance.

I am going about 20 and no more than 2500 rpms,
It will not go any faster.

If my timing is off 3 to 4 degrees and or the dwell isnt perfect could that cause it not to advance?

Hi spinakersheet,
I am not sure if this will help you gain speed and better RPM but it will not hurt you if you try. The way you could advance timing is turn your distributor counter clock wise by just a little bit. I have done this to my car and got a little bit of more power on the high end.

Hope it helps,
Lenny

Advance is mechanical.. Centrifical force moves the weights in the distributor as engine RPM increases..Did you check the springs and weights under the plate where the points mount??? I'll bet they have seen better days..
