Thinking of buying a honda 20. I have never owned a honda before. Would like to hear opinion of honda 20 owners. Would you buy same motor again if given chance to change?

Re: how do you like your honda

Hello,
Yes, I'd buy it again. Mine is pretty new. I bought it in February, as a kicker for my sailboat.
It has lots of torque, which is very appreciated at my application. Its fuel efficiency is great and the 12A alternator fulfills my needs very well. I used to have a 14HP Evinrude, and the difference in terms of noise is huge.
It came with two little problems, though. The automatic choke stops adding the extra fuel too soon. It doesn't allow the engine to warm up as it gradually stops actuating: It just quits suddenly around 15s after the start and the engine dies. My dealer will replace the choke but, according to other posts here, the problem can still persist.
It also came with a defective throttle lock. This part was replaced and is working fine now.
I suspect my problems could have been due to the long time my engine spent as Honda's stock here in Brazil. It was made in 2004 and I bought it this year, brand new.
All in all, it's a great engine. Good luck to you!

That's great news! Thank you for letting me know that. I only hope the spare parts here are not as old as the engines they sell! Anyway, I can always buy it from some American dealer, if needed.
Thanks again!

I have had a 7.5 hp on my sailboat since 1978.. it still starts on the second pull and runs like a champ... Never had the first bit of trouble out of it other than routine maint.. the decals are pretty much gone tho..:)
