How do you keep your trailer connectors from corroding?

Just thought I'd share....

My trailer wire connection is the flat 4 pin style.
The ends are always corroding from being dunked in salt water or just hanging out in the elements. So this spring I cleaned up the pins and packed the connection with marine grease. So far, this year the connection has stayed nice and clean (except for all the guey grease) and everything lights up when plugged in.

Got any other ideas?

I have a rubber cover for the ball and it has a little pocket on it that the plug goes in,and about once a month I give it a shot of WD40. d:)

You cannot stop them from corroding.

My savior, in that department, is a little spray bottle of a solution of 50/50 vinegar and water. I keep it in the boat tool box.

I've fixed many a trailer light ussue wiuth that little bottle.

I cut the plug and socket off of an old harness.

Shot of WD-40 and plug them into the boat and the truck. Always clean as a whistle when it's time to hook up.

Ditto on wjat JB does. I have a few spare connectors from when I replaced all my wiring.........so I plug them into the ones on the truck and boat when not in use and spray either wd-40 on em, or use a little petroleum jelly.

My trucks lights are one of those 7-pin RV adapters so to us my boat I have an adapter to get to the flat 4 pin from the round 7 pin. The harness on the tuck has a nice cap on it, so the adapter (with spare plug plugged into the end) stay in the glove box.

I coat them with Oxy-Guard, thats what its for.
Also use a cover for the tail on the truck.
The tail on the trailer is parked in the garage.

Small tube of dilectric grease and in the winter I coat the plug on any stored connection with grease and cover it with a baggie and rubberband. The winter salt/sand mises used around here are wire killers.

I take it a step further when I am greasing at least once a year I do all my bulbs too. The light bulb ends are often neglected.

I unplug the harness before launching so it doesn't get dunked. Otherwise I use liberal amounts of dielectric grease...on everything electrical from engine connectors, terminal boards, fuse blocks to trailer connections and lights. Applying once every 1-2 yrs keeps all looking new, even on saltwater. It's a "clean" grease like Vasoline. My trailer plugs don't get enough dirt in with the grease to make it an issue.

Dielectric grease is an absolute must for any electrical connection exposed to the elements. When you start with a good clean dry connection, you will have no problems as long as they are protected with dielectric grease. Bob & Bill have it right. A little extra work now will save you hours of headaches later.
