How do you confirm that VRO pump works at low RPM

My Johnson 40 ELESR will not idle unless choke is used or fuel squirted in one of the carbs. High speed operation is OK as is spark at all speeds. What test can I run to verify that the VRO pump is delivering enough fuel at idle speeds? Thanks for your help. Ray

Not a VRO problem. You need to pull the carbs and clean them. But to answer your question the only sure way to determine the pump out put is to use a graduated clear hose on the oil pump and count the pump pulses and see how much oil is used out of the hose. The easy way is if the oil level in the tank is dropping it is pumping

Sorry- that was the oil side, fuel side can be checked real easy by squeezing the primer bulb with the engine running and see if the problem clears as you just became the fuel pump. If it works when you squeeze replace the pump. Harder ay is hook up a fuel pump prassure gauge and make sure you have pressure

Thanks for your suggestion to squeeze the fuel bulb; that did improve the idle problem. Today I purchased a Johnson standard fuel pump ($85) and it completely fixed the inability to idle. I had disconnected the oil delivery feature of the original VRO pump years ago so a conventional pump was all I needed. The engine is configured to accept either pump and the installation was quite easy. Ray
