In addition to wanting my 4 * 4 banned because its too big the government is looking at ways to force me to stick to the speed limit. They have come up with a system that will not allow the car to go over the speed limit and slows the car to the speed limit if you come in too fast.

Now I know speeding is wrong and generally I dont speed well you cant in a diesel landrover, but I cant seem to find a sensible argument why this shouldnt be implemented. :(

Sorry about your socialist government. I would say it would be an "invasion of privacy". In the USA we still have "individual rights", but who knows for how long.

Should they also put cameras in your house so you cant break any laws there? Think of how safe ther world would be if everyone had a camera peering over thier shoulder.

Ken

I've heard of speculation of putting gvt. GPS devices in your vehicles (may already be there). This would record the number of miles you drive for tax billing purposes. Primarily, the concern is that electro- or hybrid vehicles burn so much less gas, revenue would be lost because of lack of fuel sales. Taxing based on miles-driven, would be an alternative. Wonder what else could be derived from an in-vehicle GPS.

BB, it's endless what they could do.
Track certain cars/trucks.
Shut them off.
Lock the doors.
Look at Onstar. They have to track you somehow to be able to unlock your car.

My truck has Lo Jack. Its a GPS tracking system, Im sure they could track me if they so desired.

Quite a few of the black boxes in cars are beginning to keep a running record of speed, brake application, etc for a certain period of time.

The debate I can see is when there is a wreck, the insurance company, or a lawyer will pull the black box and possibly use it against the vehicle owner.

goes hand in hand with socialized medicine. It's a mindset. Have you never heard the phrase "give em an inch and they will take a mile"?

gentelman, lojak is not gps based, it is encoded with an activation identifier that the police can address enabling it to send a signal to any near by reciever of the desinated lojack sig, alarming a cruiser to look up the vehical.
on star simply takes your vehicals obd sensor info and uses its built in cell phone which has gps built in it, as most cell phones do, and calls a alarm center with the details, why the the other companys or competitors aren't knocking thier sock off beats me, onstar is expensive for what it is.
the black box which is on all cars records the last three second of travel ,speed, brakeing, steering, , it is use in all fatal car accidents, but never as the sole evidence so it has not been challenged as far as conviction, but the evidence is there.

bh357, read the story; saw the same story on some news program. Seems the auto makers put these boxes on some cars and then analize the data after a serious accident to see if improvements can be made on the saftey of autos.

Something else, it seems a couple of speed demons don't want to own up to there own actions. Oh well we only KILLED 3 people, well stick to our 50 mph story. I'm all for using the black box for somthing like this.
