How do u tell the age of a motor from its serial number

I've just got a second hand 4HP suzuki and im unsure how old it is. Can you tell from the serial number, if so how old is this engine with this number:<br /> Suzuki 4HP, grey engine cover<br /> SERIAL NUMBER: 00402 - 462877<br /><br />thanx a lot

Howdy, Nicky. Some of us have listings in manuals, others in parts books. Several manufacturers have lists available at their web sites.<br /><br />I don't have anything on Suzis. Try their web site.<br /><br />Red sky at night. . .<br />JB
