Anybody know if there is anyway to narrow down the faulty component on this with test lites or volt/ohmeters. This has a CD module and a seperate coil. Engine ran fine when I parked it last fall and went to test run it today before mooring my sailboat and had no spark at all. I disconnected the safety/kill switch and still nothing.<br />Anybody know what the resistance of the coil should be. I measure .3 ohms on the primary and I get no reading at all on either primary with my digital ohmeter. That dosnt seem right to me but is that possible with these CD ignition systems?

Ialways use the voltage output. resistance readings can be misleading. thats why I have a CD-77 meter. your meter may be capeable of using a peak reading (DVA) adapter. test for voltage from the stator and trigger tothe CDI. then test for output voltage from the CDI to the coil primary. if alloutputs are good the coil is most likly bad. they dont fail often but corrosion is a killer. does that motor uses a dual secondary wire coil?

Without a DVA metre your pretty stuffed as resistance readings are invariably unconclusive. But resistance should be around 8 -11 on the R x 1000 range between the tower and the - post. The low tension side should be about 0.02 - 0.04 on R x 1

The service manual has the trouble shooting procedure for the CD in it.
