How do I test my coil, also what year is it?

I have a 15 hp Chrysler Sea King, model # 52118A, and Serial # 2022. What year is it? Also, how do you check the coil on it? It is not sparking on the top cylinder and I have already replaced the points and condensers. Thanks in advance!

Jacob

The motor is a 1982. Connect ohm meter to the primary wires. Ohm reading should be somewhere between .45 to about 1 ohm. To test secondary attach ohm meter to spark plug wire and black lead to either primary terminal and you should read between 7 ohms to 75 ohms depending on which coil you have on that motor. Does the coil have a part number?

eurolarva, thanks for the reply. (Nice Beetle Spin by the way)

I tried to check the ohms on the coil, but I didn't have much luck. My multimeter reads continuity, but Im not sure if it reads in the right range. I did; however, check both of the coils in the same way, and they each showed the same result. The numbers from the tops of the coils are:

Top (Not working) - FWM-1038
Bottom (working) - FWM-2500B (I think)

My parts manual has only one number, and it is A 12370. I really appreciate your help!

Thanks!
Jacob
