I have a 1997 Merc 4.3. When i take the boat out, how do I test the cooling system (or water intake) to make sure it is working properly? Running Temp is aroun 170? Does this seem right? Just want to make sure I don't hurt anything.

if you dont trust your guages feel is sometimes a good method. when your boat is at op temp and running your risers should be cool to touch maybe slightly warm, depending on the load the engine was on. your water pump should be serviced at least every other season, if only to help prevent corrosion around the water pump.<br />if you do a lot of shallow water work, beaching etc, have it checked every season.
