how do i test coils

I removed fly wheel from my 58 model 35 hp sea horse and removed coils, one of the wires coming out of one coil was naked, not the ground the other one so i'm preety sure that on is bad if it isn't it will be in no time. The other coil is the one that i suspect is bad though, how can i test it?

You can test them with an ohm meter, I don't know the specs. Check with your local service shop and see if they have a coil tester to bench test your coils.
