How do I replace rubber gasket on 2 line pressure tank?

Hello!

I just purchased a 5.5 johnson outboard.. Late fifties model with a 2 line pressurized gas tank.

The only trouble I am having is that it is leaking gas from the connection to the motor. I called the person I bought it from and he said it just needed new rubber gaskets. So I did manage to dig the old one out, and it was frail and fell apart as I tried to get it out.

So where do I find a new gasket? Should I just find something around that size at the hardware store? Or do I need something specific? I have not been able to find them online.. Just the replacement fitting (seen below). The rubber gasket I need goes right in the 2 holes in the picture. So far I only pulled on the one on the gas side.

Any help is appreciated!

Those o-rings are available at your local Evinrude dealer. I find it easier to press the fitting apart using a small hex-wrench as an improvised tool (size that fits inside the nipples on the fitting). I cut the "L" part off the wrench and slide the shaft into the nipple of the fitting. Then set it in a vice with a large nut or washer (ID larger than the OD of the brass faces, which will come out) as a catcher. GENTLY press the fitting apart. Keep all items in same order for reassembling. O-ring goes over the tip of the small squared piece inside. GENTLY press it back together in the vice. Keep everything square when pressing so that nothing bends or breaks. I've done dozens of them this way and it takes about 5 minutes per side once you have things set up.

Click the thumbnail twice for another method.

The aftermarket 0-rings are generally the wrong size. OE part # is 0301824.

Thanks for both answers.

I dug the gas side out (Is fell apart). So I may hold off on the air side.. Maybe it wont need to be replaced.. And I did find the o-ring at a local dealer using that code. thank you very much for that, I never would have found it without it!

So just like you said the O ring is slightly larger than what was in there.. Is that going to be an issue? I dont have a way to test the motor until I get it in the lake this weekend. I just dont want to get there and have this connection be spurting gas like an off shore oil rig.
