Hello,

I need to replace the timing gear cover on a mercruiser 120 and to do that, I have to remove the plate attached to the crankshaft that the pully wheel attaches to... I have attached a pic because I know I'm not calling anything by its proper name. (I'm brand new to boats)

How is this piece removed? I can't see anything holding it on.

Thanks for any help!

hi buddy - no probs its a pleasure

its the crankshaft hub and you are going to need a proper puller.

part number J-6978

basically it fits onto the hub in the 3 threaded holes (where the pulley was bolted in) and then you use a wrench and socket to turn a central pressing stud - which then pulls the hub off

then to replace you will need a mallet and part number J-5590

hope this helps mate

cheers

if it helps- the puller could be called a harmonic balancer puller.they arent to expensive.sears sells them.some auto parts stores rent them.
