Hello again,
I have removed all but the 2 lowest bolts on the exhaust cover on my 1986 75HP Mariner #A199493. I might be able to get all the bolts out but the shifter bracket is about 1/16" in front of the exhaust cover. IF I can get all the bolts out of the exhaust cover, I will have about 1/16" play to pull it off. Can the exhaust cover simply slide off to the side, or is there something recessed into it or it into the motor that it will keep it from sliding off to the side? In other words, is the cover flat?
I've loosened up everything I can see from the lower cowl. It moves around but will not drop down to allow me to get to the shifter bracket. I removed the 2 upper bolts on the braket but it is solid still. How would I changes the shifter cable, if I had too? I see there is a lever that will release he cables from the bracket but the cowl is in the way to allow me to even do that. Is the cowl supposed to go up or down? There has to be a way of getting at the shifter cable?
Sorry, not having much time to work on this and I'm getting frustrated with the lower cowl. IF I could only move that, I would be in good shape.
Hopefully someone knows this motor well enough to give me some help?
P.S., thanks for all your help before.
Karl.
