If it is a four stroke engine it will say so on the engine cover. If you still aren't sure, remove the cover and look at the engine. As mentioned, if you find a dip stick like the one in your car (if you ever check that) it is a four stroke. The engine looks entirely different than a two stroke in the area of the spark plugs. Two stroke heads are basically flat. Four strokes have intake and exhaust valves so look for camshaft covers. If the engine has a sticker on it that says fuel/oil mix 50:1 it is a two stroke. Four strokes have oil in the crankcase. Also look for a label on the side that says something like "transport on this side". Four strokes need to be layed on one side or the other to prevent the crankcase oil from getting into places it is not supposed to be.
