There seems to be a brown stain (wasnt there begining of year)..Im new to boating and thought it would come off after a good wash...this is not the case (perhaps this is why you rinse down after each outting??...leason learned)..

How does one remove it?
Ive tried suggestions by hand only (no power buffers):
wd40-degreasers, vinegar..but its only a bit lighter..

any suggestions appreciated.

It's sad but people should pay attention and just simply look in the iboats store. They carry many cleaning products and that's what supports our forums!

This forum (and IdleSpeedOnly) has saved me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I ordered some products yesterday from here.

Star brite or Attwood hull cleaner. Mix 1/4 bottle to 1/2 gallon of water in a garden sprayer. Start at the bow and work your way back spraying just enough solution to wet the surface. By the time to get to the back of the boat the front will already be clean. Rinse liberally with a hose and your done. Might take all of 10 minutes

Thanks for the pointer.
Ive read the reviews for Slimygrimy...some people are estactic, some very disappointed..Im guessing it depends on whats on the bottom of your boat :).
.I attached a pic/ I would hate to spend close to 30$ and not get the stuff removed..
Any suggestions ?? I dont have algae build up . Perhaps I need Greasy Grime??

Maybe try what Dingbat above posted for you. He was two minutes ahead of your post, so you may have been typing and not seen it!

I have used only one starbrite product so far - and was flaborgasted by it. (Non-slip deck cleaner) I used it on stuff that plenty of other basic cleaners wouildn't do anything to - and also some dock rashes. Both worked wonders with minimal elbow grease.

I would bet their hull cleaner would be even better for your appl. However are you dealing with rusty water or grease/exhaust? that could help decide your solution i would think.

That's EXACTLY what Slimy Grimy takes off. I had a 30,000.00 Ranger and my hull looked just like that. When I sold her, I used Slimy Grimy and it looked show room new when I handed the keys to the new owner. Maybe try the cheaper of the two products. I have no experience with Starbrite, so maybe it will work great. If it doesn't, you know Slimy Grimy will:) -Joe

For fun (and "cheaps") grab some dish soap and a magic eraser and try a small area. I've done surprisingly well with it on occasion.

Re: How do I get the brown stain off transom and waterline?

10 years ago I used to moor my boat in a lake and after 2 weeks it would develop the brown line then after a whole season it would be pretty gross. I found a solution called On/Off that worked extremely well. I don't know if they still make it though since it was very strong. The only drawback to it was it reacted to galvanised metal and turned it brown so you would need to protect your trailer with a drop clothe. I put it on with a foam brush and the brown just melted off.

Something else to consider is an engine degreaser. I used Johnson/Evinrude marine engine degreaser on my lower unit that was yellow stained. Made it look brand new. It's biodegradable and doesn't have any petroleum solvents.

I get those stains from my exhaust. The stuff I use is basically mild acid, I find it in a brown bottle at the local marine store. Think it's called rust away or stain away. Something along those lines, squirt some on and your boat is magically white again :) You should wax afterwards though.

Edit, found it

Re: How do I get the brown stain off transom and waterline?

I just used a hull cleaner and it took most of the brown stain off. However there were some areas that were pretty ground in where the cleaner didnt work. I used turtle was rubbing compound and some elbow grease and it lifted it right out.
