how do i find year of johnson outboard. no serial number found

I'm trying to find the year of my 115hp v4 johnson seahorse motor but the serial # has been paintrd over. is there another way

there should be a plug on the top of the motor behind the flywheel with the model
# on it. you can use this to look up the year.

thank you. but the flywheel is located ontop of the motor. any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

there is a freeze plug located on the block on the top and it will have numbers stamped there.
