Re: How do I drop the lower unit?

Remove the prop, washers and prop nut(I use a wire tie to keep them all together)
Remove the bolts(apply pressure slowly) that hold the assembly to the exhaust housing. There is an additional bolt you need to access that holds the zinc trim tab(you access this from the top.) It is best to remove the unit when the motor is in neutral and mark the shift shaft with some white out when you have it removed, also make sure you have the ground clearance to drop the unit clear of the shaft and housing.
There is also a plastic fitting attached to a small diameter hose in the front of the unit that must be removed with the unit dropped a few inches, be careful not to break the fitting.
When the bolts are all loose about a half inch you should be able to wiggle the unit down a bit, remove the bolts then drop the unit clear of the housing. It is best to have another person to help you lower it. The unit is not that heavy but you don't want it slipping out of your hands. Also it is a good idea to have something soft under it as you lower it just in case.

This is how it came out of my '85 115 hp( I am not a professional marine mechanic I am assuming the 130 being a v4 it is very similar, so I would run this procedure by one if availible). I am still trying to figure out what years are compatible to find a cheaper replacement becasue it is an exercise in patience getting the hub intact out to rebuild.

Shop manuals for this motor are availible in marine stores and ebay etc. It is really a good idea to buy one, I have referred to mine to rebuild carbs, decarbonize heads, debug electrical problems, replace t stats etc. and most of them have decent graphics to help guide you.

Good luck

I don't know of a model V-4 2cycle that won't swap out with your 85 model. That front fitting and hose are for the speedometer. If not being used, simply cut the hose and forget it. Pain in the butt to unhook and hook it up if it is not being used. Trimming the engine up makes it a lot easier to manage on and off.

Wow

Thats an awesome explanation thanks for that, as I expected when I checked I don't think the service agents have replaced the impellar during my last service. So i'm now going to check it myself. I'll let you know how it goes.
