Started a new post for this question...

My dad just brought over this old pole and reel, see pictures and description here as shown below.

I need some help on cleaning and lubrication. It feels a bit hard to turn, probably needs a deep clean. Has very little fishing time on it, mostly storage.

Still reading all of the posts, keep 'em coming. Searching ebay for these models and brands. Thanks again for the help.

Link is http://www.geocities.com/keithrstone/reel.html

no experience with those things .. first step would be getting a schematic from someplace. Looking it over to determine where there might be possible spring tension on particular parts so to be overly cautious when removing them to avoid the part being catipulted across the room and lost for ever.

other then that, you can use a preasurised degreaser/cutting solvent like brake cleaner or something to remove the gunk birchwood's Gun Scrubber or Break-Free CLP.. an old tooth brush will help some too. I you use brake cleaner or the Gun Scrubber in the internals - it strips all lube - so you'll end up w/o any protection and will need to (at least) spray w/oil and wipe excess off those pieces and parts.

plenty of stuff out there to use heres a thread on the lube .. take your pick.

Try here for an exploded drawing, AFF63: http://southwesternparts.com/frames.asp

No luck? Get your digicam out and start to dismantle, taking pix at every step. Then use the pix as assembly instructions after complete cleaning and lube.

Good luck. :)

Wow, sounds like a daunting task, one with a low chance of success.... SOUNDS GREAT! :D

I will check the link, thank you. Barlow, thank you for the advice too.

Several companies sell a dunk bucket for cleaning polymer framed guns (glock), I wonder if that would work here as well?
