How Do I Charge Aux. Batteries

I've got an '84 Bass Nautique with a Mercury Black Max 150, 1984.
I realize that the motor's stator => rectifier recharges the battery that starts the motor.

I've got 2 aux. batteries that run the instrument panel and the trolling motor.
They're wired in series to get 24 volts for the trolling motor.
The instrument panel only uses 1 of the batteries (#1) to get 12 volts.

The aux. batteries are currently not wired to the battery that starts the motor.
Therefore, they are not being charged.

Can I safely wire the starting battery in parallel with the #1 aux. battery?
If I do that would the stator => rectifier charge all three batteries without burning the rectifier diodes (or anything else) out?

What is the preferred way to charge the aux. batteries on a bass boat?

Here is what I sell/install... you will need to run the engine over 4000rpm to charge as you only got a 16amp system at idle its only about 2 amp output.

Boy, that's nice.
I don't see it in the budget for this project though.

Is this the only way to do it?
Should I conclude that the stator => rectifier doesn't deliver enough charge to charge up all 3 batteries?

Of course I understand that usage is a major factor here.
It's a bass boat, we can figure that it'll be used for fishing and that the trolling motor would be used a pretty good bit.
I can't think that the instrument panel is going to use too much current.
The live wells and bilge pump would use a bit.

So, would the *only* other way to charge the aux. batteries be with an external battery charger?
