I have a 650 Mercury 1964 65HP and want to change the water pump impeller. Do I drop the lower unit and seperate the pump and change the impeller just like that or is there more to it? Also how much is a new impeller. I know I know cheaper than a new motor but could someone give me an idea. Thanks

Hi, again, Bill.

First, you get yourself a Repair Manual. Even old timers will not try an unfamiliar task without one.

Bottom of the page, click on Repair Manuals.

After you have done the job you will have it for the next time.

Good luck. :)

Bill,
You may want to change the houseing also. Impeller and houseing around 40 bucks. Not tough to change with a manual. Clymer has great manuals. Good luck!
CU

Re: How do I change the water pump impeller

Thanks JB and CU,
I have had a pontoon boat for a few years but it has never given me a hint of trouble and it is stored at a marina for the winter and they service it. But I bought second boat and it is a bit of a handyman special so I am starting to do a bit of work on it myself. IBoats and it's members have been really helpful. One thing I can't get over is how everyone swears by a Shop Manual. I guess I'll be picking one up. Once again thanks for the assistance.
