Hello,
SO i currently have a 2000 evinrude 115 outboard on my 21' 2000 sylvan deck boat. I was looking to buy a different (used) motor, a little more HP maybe. So i had 2 questions. First, how hard is it to swap outboard motors? And second which motors could i buy that will be easiest to swap with mine? What i mean is are there certain brands that will be easier to use without major mechanical changes, i was looking to stay away from evinrude, long story, so would a mercury fit in easy? I realize this is a very basic question i am asking, and i am sure it is more complicated, this isn't plug and play right, haha. But i dont know how else to ask this, i just want to know how much would a mechanic charge , and what brands, types would be best to buy so as to have to do the least amount of changes when hooking the new(used) motor up.
thanks for any advice.

If you stick with J/E then its an easy swap, takes about an hour if you know what to do. To use another brand will require new controls, which frequently take longer to change than the motor portion of it. Other than that there's not much else to do.
