Submerged your battery? I'll venture that it wasn't the plug, but you forgot to remove your transom straps and water flooded the battery compartment from the top.

(not speaking from experience by the way, I just see how that could happen with the way my battery is set up.)

O.K. I think I might have it. You're boat is moored just off the beach in fairly shallow water. You were blasting the radio all day and when you went to start the boat your battery was dead. So, you pull the battery and walk through the water to the beach. On the way, a crab locks on to your big toe and you drop the battery in the drink. How'd I do?

Dont think they have crabs in Minnesota. Well, the kind you eat anyway.

Your battery box is located under the hole in the engine well where your control cables go thru it and you removed the battery case cover. It rained overnight and the water dripped into the battery box. Don't ask how I know.

My guess is that you forgot to put the plug in.

I know exactly what happened.

You were tooling around the lake and happened across a weird animal crawling along the shoreline. Going in for a closer look, you were puzzled at first, then realized it was the infamous chupacabra. Just as the kids said "aww ain't he cute" the beast looks over and starts running across the water's surface directly at your boat. You scramble for something to fend off the hideous creature and the first thing that pops into your head is "battery", yeah BATTERY! that will sink the beast. Furiously you whip out a crescent wrench, rip off the hold down and nuts, get the battery free, and,,, wait... Right as the chupacabra puts a paw on the side of the boat, you drop the battery on top of it, sending the little monster to Davey Jones Locker.

OK, I win, where's my prize. :D

Creative.

Pulled the boat out of water via trailer. Yanked battery and put on starboard bunk. Was 3am in dark. Proceeded to remove items and strap boat down completing sleepy road check.

Got the chains, and removed the plug and milfoil, and strapped the bow and stern...after I had backed into the water to center the boat properly.

So I take one quick walk around the truck looking in the bed KNOWING I am forgetting something. I go to the boat and look around to no avail. I look in the truck cab to no avail. Ahhh crap it hits me. I turn the truck around toward the launch and there it is cahunas deep in water.

Moral of the story...drink more caffeine.

Re: How did I submerge my battery?

Friend of mine was at the fireworks on July 1st (Canada) on a fairly fast flowing river. He had thrown his anchor overboard without tying on the rope a week before. He goes to anchor on the river because there are about 60 boats anchored ready for the fire works and he was drifting down the river and dint want to drift away from the group. Goes to get his anchor and remembers he threw it overboard a week ago. He runs two batteries so he pulled one out, tied it to the rope and threw it overboard.

He and the family watch the fireworks...and listen to the stereo. After the fireworks, goes to start the boat...yup, dead. Tells the boy to pull up the "anchor" so he can start the boat. Its been on the bottom for about an hour. As he is pulling up the battery, he starts to drift in the current. His engine is dead, his battery is dead and drifting fast down the river and heading to a sharp bridge concrete pillar. Grabs the battery, hooks it up, gets the engine started and within 5 feet of the bridge drives away

Love it! I can only imagine the adrenaline running through his veins when his son lifted the battery from the riverbed.

I thought a battery underwater discharged itself immediately? Or is that just salt water?

Re: How did I submerge my battery?

well ive dunked a battery via one of the above. im 270-280 depending on my dinner. i was in the back of my uncles 14' sea nymph with a 9.9 and i said come on back. as my buddie backed the lil boat in the weight was to much at rear and under my arse went. my clothes i had brought to keep me warm that eve while fishing went floating away. we pulled out and drained. the second time i sat in front and stern lifted right up.;) what made it real bad. there was a picnic table full of old locals watching.:facepalm:this is exactly what happed to me. but the straps were off and we didnt loose the fuel tank. i was yelling the same thing. i got quite a bit wetter than bill did. i was waist deep.
