I am working on a 24' pontoon, I have a 1990 75HP Mercury on the back. How do I know what is the best depth to have my motor set at . Overall I can raise or lower the unit 5". Give me some guidlines please.

Since there is so much drag on a pontoon anyway, the mounting height is not as critical as it is on a planing hull. Mount it one hole up and you'll be good. The engine runs in turbulent water so the prop needs to be set deep.

Thanks, I want as must bang for my gallon of gas as possible. I like the pontoon , but riding fast is fun too.

The answer to the basic question is "as shallow as is possible". Toons aren't where you get sizzling performance to satisfy your speed whims......you know that. Requires 2 boats; one for tooning and one for spooning................... Ha!

Just had to jump in here.
