Hi again, my project gets closer to splashing and the costs keep goin higher! so if i can save coin where i can...

firstly these exhaust relief port rubbers - at over $50 each, can i get away with grommets instead of these tubes

they go between the 'y' pipe and the transom shield

also the transom shield bolts up with 6 'shouldered' studs, am i able to use non shouldered (if they can be found)?

Thanks y'all

Honestly I'd say for this situation while you might be able to make something work, would it worth the chance to have to this all over again? If you were a marine service shop customer, you'd have to bit the bullet and pay retail for them. While I know you're spending a lot of money getting the boat ready right now, at the same time you are saving a lot too working on it yourself.;)

That mentioned, have you searched the part number out on EBay, There looks to be some offered at much lower costs than what you might spend/create in time driving around town trying to find something that might work in their place.

Using Volvo part number 843235, I see one left for $18.01 and a set of two new ones possibly aftermarket for 34.99. Or 2 used for $40.00, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...Volvo&_sacat=0

Just for reference the part in question is item number 9, http://www.volvopentastore.com/Exha...on_id.722814599--store_id.366--view_id.767449

Don't forget your center O-ring, 925256 http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...Volvo&_sacat=0

Unfortunately it seems the Volvo stud part number 873316 is no longer in production so which of course means back to driving around town in order to find something else to work.

Just for image purposes, below is an old photo of one that someone has already sold though...Note the material used which should help with possible corrosion issues.
th

Hope this helps some, good luck.:)

Thanks fun times, i hadn't found those from aus ebay - gotta love the 1 @ $69.99... however thanks to your link i just ordered a pair delivered to aus for $50, seems i owe u a beer!!

As for the studs, I dont kno how fancy the metallurgy is as 5 out of 6 are rrrusted. Assuming the right pitch and size stud can be found tho, could we forego the shoulder and use locktite? just anticipating not so many 'fun times' trying to find them...

Mine were half gone and I didn't want to remove the "Y" pipe so I used 90? PVC with a threaded
insert to rig some kind of duckbill flapper later, but then never put flappers on. It's been this way for 4 years.

yep all went well, been driving in the beast for the past 6 months without problem - re the exhaust relief pipes, bought a set from ebay - all up cost about $60 (post to aus); re the transom shield bolts i went with conventional bolts, had to go to a fastener specialty store, but only cost around $25 with washers. In fact this is a good reminder to check the tension on those bolts, and i guess all the others in the build! click the link in my signature to check out the whole boat rebuild.
