monkey story on company policy

Start with a cage containing five monkeys.

Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs
under
it.

Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards
the
banana.

As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the monkeys with cold
water.

After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result -
all
the monkeys are sprayed with cold water.

Pretty soon, when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other
monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, turn off the cold water.

Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one.

The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs.

To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attack him.

After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb
the
stairs, he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a
new
one.

The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked.

The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm.

Again, replace a third original monkey with a new one.

The new one makes it to the stairs and is attacked as well.

Two of the four monkeys that beat him have no idea why they were not
permitted to climb the stairs, or why they are participating in the
beating
of the newest monkey.

After replacing the fourth and fifth original monkeys, all the monkeys
that
have been sprayed with cold water have been replaced.

Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approaches the stairs.

Why not?

Because as far as they know that's the way it's always been around
here.

And that's how company policy begins ...

That's like the bride that baked a ham. Before putting it in the oven, she cut the ends off. When her husband asked why, she said that's the way her Mom always did it.

He finally got around to asking his MIL the same question. Her response was that's the way her Mom always did it.

When visiting, he asked his wife's Grandmother why she always cut the ends off the ham before baking.

Her response was "because it was too big for the pan".

I can't believe that this post has had so few responses and that the What's in a Name even got one. Frankly, I haven't looked to see the one response but then... ;)
Now which company is it you work for, Bassy? ;)

Kind of a similar story...

I heard this from a very credible source, someone involved with city gvt in the L.A. area, but I don’t know if it is true: about the mid 1990’s the residents of a small city in the Los Angels metro area elected a new city clerk. The new clerk almost immediately notice someone in the office was making a call every morning to give someone else a local weather report. When the clerk asked the person why they were calling everyday with a local weather report, the person said because it has always been done. Upon investigating the daily weather reporting, the clerk discovered the receiving party was a dept in the fed gvt. The feds didn’t know why the city called every morning with the weather, had told the city it wasn’t necessary but the city just kept doing it so they (the feds) just answered the phone listened to the weather report and then thanked the caller. Turns out the weather reporting was started during WWII when various coastal cities would report the weather conditions that would in turn be passed on to the military. For some reason this one city never stopped reporting the weather.

Sure sounds like an urban ledged to me, but I have never seen it or heard it as such. And like I said, I heard this from a very credible source in the area and at a time this supposedly happened.
