I ran two boston wailer 17 footers with 90hp yamaha motors, the boats are used strictly for watersporting activities, and now i have lost good power from one of the engines. They are only four years old and i was wondering if it was time for an engine reduild,or if there was something i coulod to get back the normal power that i am used to.

red- have you tried 'decarbbing' the motor ? that is a process of removing the carbon build-up from the piston rings, top of piston, cylinder walls..etc..this is accomplished by using a fuel additive such as Yamaha Ring Free...but there are various products that do it

Hi, Redyute.

Can you be more specific about what "lost good power" means?

You may have carbon buildup screwing up compression or you may have a fuel or ignition problem. It is not very likely that you need to overhaul it.

Do as ZZZZZ suggests and do a compression check.

Give us more details and we can surely get your ponies back.

Good luck. :)

Is that a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke engine?
