How best to manage a chin strap on my new cowboy hat?

I think that’s what the leather lanyard is called. I just need to know what the best way is to maybe braid it in the back? I’m not sure. Got this hat because it’s wall is water repellent. It fits perfect now that I know I’m a size 7 1/4 and it was a pretty good deal through Cavender’s. It’s also crushable and I’m not gonna be too worried if I get it dirty.

That string looks like it goes to lay at the front base of your throat. To prevent hat from blowing completely away.

Depends which way the wind is blowing , headwind and it should be under your chin , tailwind and have it round the back of your neck , that way if it blows off you dont have to chase it .

Maybe I'll braid it so I can flip it to the front or back?

Actually that might be cooler than my 1st thought :D,

Im not a cowboy hat sort of guy but I do wear a straw hat about the same shape when Im workin outside in the sun ( building a garden shed ) and found the (very welcome ) breeze would blow my hat off forward or backward depending on which way I was facing ( you'd never get me on a horse ) and if I ride my quad to the river to fish or to Jimbob's to drink beer it always blows off ( backed over it more than once ) ...... yeah , so anyhow I flagged it and got some sunscreen :LOL:
