Some guy on this sight says that if a honda is not ran weekly that the carb jets will clog up. Is this true or BS...who would want a engine that has to be ran weekly to keep the carb jets from clogging.......?

what a crock! I've let mine sit for 2 months with no noticeable problem. Although, that long a period is not ideal with gas stablizer. but then again, if a carb does clog, it is a function of the gas, not the carb.

RON1,
I had to let my carbed BF40 sit for 6 months (because of a new new baby), went outside the other day, hooked up a gas can, pumped the bulb solid, pulled the choke, pressed the starter button, and varoom, she started right up and purred like a kitten.

Thats why I bought a honda!

Nav

I'm pretty close to the boat ramp, so mine gets fired up pretty regular.
However, Keihin carbs have a long track record of being pretty reliable, simple and trouble free.

The litmus is this very forum. Taken into proper perspective the truth lies here. If the carbs were troublesome, it would be reflected here.

While dirt and rust will cause problems with any fuel system. Water is the real killer. It doesn't take long for water to start corroding the alloy in a carb body making it nearly impossible to clean or repair. This doesn't matter who makes the part.

RON,

I do not think that Honda carbs. are bad, just sensitive.

The orifices are smaller than comparable 2-strokes. The same applies for any 4-stroke engine, regardless of maker.

My experience with four strokes has been with an older Honda 10 and a newer 8.

The 8 absolutely requires treated fuel. If not treated, it will gum up in short order.

I don't know what motor you have. I have a 1985 10 that I got used 6 years ago. I rebuilt the carb when I got it. I have not had a problem with it. The motor has gone for periods of several months with out starting. I have always disconnected the fuel hose and let the engine run until it quits which I beleive is a good idea.

Eric
