how 2 drop lower unit

I have an Evinrude 25 hp 1988 year model and has quit pumping. Have the four bolts and the forward nut removed and unit drops down about 4 inches. What else is holding it in? Am afraid to force it any further. IS there something in the shift handle I have to unhook? Any special tricks to replacing the impeller?<br />Ben<br /><br />Ben

You really need a manual. Is that motor a tiller control. Take the water intake screen off below the prop. There should be a connection of the shift rod in there. Disconnect that and then remove the bolts in the water pump housing and the .... You really need a service manual for this motor- its complicated.

Ben..<br /><br />Walker is right. Get a shop manual for the engine. It will tell you all you need to know and then some. If you do get into it, when you take the shift shaft connection apart, there is a little plastic ring between the connections. Be careful with this. It is split to allow installation but will break in a heart beat. This should be replaced anyway after removal.<br /><br />Jim

I bought 2 manuels from ebay for less than half the cost including shipping. You definitly need one.
