I live in north eastern Wisconsin. I have a weather station. At 3:07 this afternoon the heat index was 128 degrees. My central air has been running all day and has risen from 75 to 80 inside and never shut off. I was working in my garage most of the day cleaning up and adding couple more rod holders to my boat (I have air cond in garage), wife is visiting daughter. Came in a few minutes ago and looked at weather station. I've lived up north, MN, WI mostly, never seen or heard of it being this hot. Probably no big deal for you guys down South but holy cow!!!

Re: Hot!

THI of 128 is very rare, here, George. The temp commonly goes over 100 but the humidity is low enough that the THI stays down around 105 to 110.

I remember a day on Big Sissabagama Lake near Hayward, WI back in the '70s that the thermometer went over 100. A major thunderblitz came along and caught the Love Of My Life and me out on the lake in a 14' tinny. Spent some time looking up at water on both beams and getting sprayed with high velocity spume. Great adventure. When we got back to the resort it was 75 degrees.

Re: Hot!

It was dang hot all weekend. We spent it on the relaxation station, which is a 10'x10' floatie with 4 lounges, cup holders, and water in the middle. It doesnt get any better. I bet I could have sold that thing for a mint this past week.

In my infinite wisdom I climbed into the attic yesterday to run electrical for a ceiling fan the wife has been asking me to put up. It was 103F......I don't even want to know what it was in the attic....bet I lost a few lbs though.

This is the hottest that I can remember.......and the driest. My lawn is a desert.

Re: Hot!

Hotter than I like this week, but only seeing 95, idea of 103.

On average, we only see 10 days above 90.

Re: Hot!

It's been 95-100 for the past several days here. Index @ 105. I won't even take the boat out in this heat. There is nowhere to escape (no a/c on board) and even the water itself is of no comfort as it's bathwater warm in the swimming coves! Ridiculous.

yep, us too. today it's supposed to be 101*F. heat index above that. what a bummer.
My central air has been running all day and has risen from 75 to 80 inside and never shut off.
yep, except i got a widow air. it was acting labored (cycling on,off every 10 min. with a big thump when the compressor would turn off) yesterday in the dead heat of the late afternoon. this morning i hosed off the coil on the outside + cleaned the inside filter and coil inside too. had much cat hair on it... i just turned it back on. so far so good. i've dropped 2*F in the room where the a/c resides. it sounds less labored too. this afternoon will tell.

good news is, the cool front is supposed to slowly come by in the next 2 days dropping the highs into the 90's + or - a little. that'd be better...

George, hot is hot no matter where it is. I'm dreading August when the typical day will go over 100* with 70+ humidity here. Lots of times I don't even go outside:(

Re: Hot!

Visiting friends in MN right now - the 114? with 25% humidity back in TN was easier to deal with than the 95? at 60% humidity. I don't like either, but I'll take the low humidity over the "up north" version.

If it is over 100, you should push that t-stat above 80. 80 would feel comfortable. I'd rather make the air 'decent' and bearable @ 80-83 (which should feel okay since it's dry air) instead of risking my unit blowing up.

On 98-100 degree days, I find 80 indoors to be pleasant, and I have a geothermal unit that I could happily run even more at almost no cost.

Re: Hot!

Actually it did still feel comfy at 80 inside. Didn't get any higher than that so I guess its working OK. Watching the news they said heat index in the 105 -110 around here. My weather station must not be accurate because it said we went to 131. Paid 300 or 400 bucks for it three years ago. It was supposed to be a good one.

Re: Hot!

Had two 9 yo nieces staying for the week. Insisted on sand bar camping on lower wisconsin river.Been doing this for 45+ years,I have never seen sand get that hot.River is as low as I can remember seeing. Hard to get around even with my jet but the girls loved it and didnt want to leave. Two days of that were enough for this old goat Temp read 102 in my truck late thurs. afternoon at the landing
