Hot wires

I have a 125 force outboard motor. the positive cable gets so hot it melts the lead on the battery. how do i stop this.

First inspect the wire's, both Pos. and Neg., and clean the connections while your at it.

Have you replaced the battery wires? How recently? How old is the battery itself, and how well maintained has it been (new distilled water?).

If the cable gets that hot, too much current is flowing through it.
Which means there is a hot wire grounding out somewhere.

This is a dangerous condition.
You must find the wire.

Short or loose connection.The starter might need to be cleaned.Take it apart after you have gone through all the connections.The ground on the motor could be loose.J

I had the same prob and found the bolt holding the starter together had broke inside and causing the armature to be off center and rub , shorting out.Took it apart cleaned the brushes etc ,Put another bolt in and runs fine now
