My 1991 Mercury oil injected 150 hp motor heats up under hard running conditions. The boat sat for about 6 months and when I used it the engine would slowly creap up until the warning buzzard sounded. After backing down on the throttles a little to about 3K rpm the engine cooled down but if I ran it hard again it slowly crept up. I have changed the thermostat and that made it worse. The enine had the thermostat cut but I put in a regular thermostat without cutting it. I took it out today an almost immediately it start to get hot. I came back and cut the thermostat. Now I am back to square one. The only other thing I can think of is the impeller. The impeller and pump were changed 18 months ago. Is it possible the impeller has gone bad this quickly? By the way, I haven't taken the boat out that much in the 18 months. Is it possible that I installed the impeller backwards, can that be done? Maybe I never notice it creeping up if the impeller can be installed backwards. The engine is cooling, but not enough when I run it hard. What else can I check? Is there anyway to check the pasages?

Pete

------------------
Thanks,
Pete
<;}}><

Anytime you have an overheat situation, the w.p impeller should be the first and in my opinion easiest thing to check.

Remove thermostats, start engine fast idle, should have a gusher out of each hole, no water go to waterpump. Check water pressure valve.
