Went fishing today and was heading to my second spot and as was making a turn, my boat didn't slow down, so i hit the hot foot, thinking it maybe stuck, but it wasn't, so I got it out of gear and then turned the key off to kill the engine. After I tried to crank it up again, all if would do is rave at full throttle. I thought the cable may have came disconnected, but it wasn't. I can step on the Hot foot and watch the cable move, but it won't retract. Any ideas ?

Re: Hot Foot Cable

Pop the hood on the motor and while a helper operates the hotfoot, see what the carb. linkage is doing. Make sure it's returning all the way to the idle stop and the timing plate is fully retarded...Sounds like a jammed up cable that may need to be replaced

Sounds like the return spring on the Hot Foot broke or came disconnected. At that point the pedal should stay where ever you put it and not come back. If you can pull the pedal back and the cable stays, the cable probably broke.

Re: Hot Foot Cable

I have done all the above. Let me say when the helper operating the hotfoot, the cable works when depressed. Moving the cable and carb. linkage. When releasing the hotfoot, the cable stay in place, (will not return), nor will the carb. linkage. I have to use my hand to push the cable back and then the carb. linkage will return to the start position. When the helper releases the hotfoot, the pedal will come back to the normal position.

Re: Hot Foot Cable

The inner cable is broke or disconnected. Since the E/J throttles are "push to open" it'll open the throttle because the 2 pieces of inner cable are together. When you release the Hot Foot the forward part of the broken cable comes back but there's nothing to pull the rear part of the inner cable.
