Hose Sticking Up From Lower Unit ?

Hi All, I have a mid 90s 35hp on my pontoon and there is a small rubber tube sticking up and out of the lower unit about 1/2 way up the motor. I don't know if it should be hooked to something or not. Any advice would be great .

That is a speedometer pickup tube.
