Re: horsepower

You will meed major mods to achieve 100 + horses out of your current package. If you are running an alpha 1 outdrive, it will handle up to 300 HP max. Might be cheaper to find a boat with more HP than to repower what you have. There are other guys here on the forum that are really good at engine mods. I'm sure they will be along shortly to give you their insight. Welcome to iBoats!

Re: horsepower

I don't think you'll find anyone here with a suggestion on your 5.0. There are no chips available for the marine packages that I know of or have seen posted here, and your 5.0 is doing really good making around 280 at the flywheel as it is . . .

The carbed 5.7s only made around 235 at the prop (yours 260), so you can see that a 5.0 is really working as yours is rated now. Fact is that you need more air, and the only way you're gonna get it is with displacement (new engine) or a blower. These guys sell a lot of systems in our area:

Whipple Charger

They just don't do the 5.0 as far as I can tell. This stuff is expensive too. $6000 for the 350 Mag and 6.2 systems which may bolt onto the 5.0, but they won't have the software developed for your engine . . . They don't like doing that because there are not very many guys trying to get a bunch of horsepower out of 5.0s. No return on the development $ . . .

Oh, oh, and what Fireship says about the drive capability is true too, so the repower options are limited by the drive. A 300 350 Mag is the most that Merc puts in front of the Alpha. You can push that a little if you're careful and know that it will eventually fail . . .
