I HAVE HEARD THAT PRIOR TO 1990, HORSEPOWER WAS RATED AT THE CRANK SHAFT WITH APPROXIMATE 12% LESS HP AT THE PROP SHAFT. I HAVE A 1989 SUZUKI 200 HP, DOES THIS MEAN I ACTUALLY HAVE A 176 HP AT THE SHAFT??? COMMENTS ANYONE.

No, CKJR.

The changeover from crank rating to prop rating started (by Suzuki, incidentally) in the late '70s and was essentially complete by the mid '80s. Some believe that Force engines were crank rated right up to when they were discontinued.

The actual power loss in the shaft and lower end varies from engine to engine.

Your Suzi has all 200HP at the prop.

BTW, please do not use all capitals. It is more difficult to read, and it is interpreted as shouting on the net.

Good luck. :)
