I am looking at repowering an older boat, but I have heard that the hp rating method changed around 72. When did boat manufacturers change from crankshaft to propeller for rating the maximum a boat can have? I have a 1972 glastron rated for 100hp, will it take a new 100hp where the hp is measured at the prop?

Re: Horse Power rating

Provided the transom is fully sound and not afflicted with any rot, it shouldn't be a problem. Note that if you go with a four stroke though you will add a lot of weight for the same horses.
