Well last night Our boat was stolen right off of our lift. The boat was a 1986 Formula 25 PC Cruiser. We just repowered it in august witha new MPI 383 mercruiser with Bravo One drive. The boat was a great boat and I have a feeling that somebody planned it out and new that it had been towed to get repowered and after that had seen me out on the river and plotted it out. I'm susspicious of a few people. Gosh this pisses me off some people are just sick. I 'll keep you updated on what happened. Wow it felt like getting sucker punched in the chest!

Re: Horrible News

Total flippin' bummer!!! :( Insurance?

Also, is classified land locked? How far can they go before it has to come out of the water? Launch ramps? If they had to tow it (on and off the water), that's a lot of activity to be without any witnesses.

Edit: Ahhhh, classified is Jacksonville.

Re: Horrible News

Man that really sucks, it had to be someone watching. that's not a easy boat to hide. let all the marina owners know. with registration number. it would also take a big trailer. it could be as far as Palatka, Welaka, Mayport. also make sure the fresh water fish commission, marine patrol, coast guard, game wardens , know it's stolen. they just might pick it up.

we had just discussed in the forum, about prop locks. and instead of the prop they took the whole boat.

keep me posted.

Re: Horrible News

That really sucks man, people are unbelievable these days. Check Ebay and Craigslist for parts that might show up. Did you have a lot of electronics like GPS, VHF radio, or TV on board?

Re: Horrible News

Man I hate to hear that buddy. It sucks when you get things stolen from you, I recently had a central a/c unit stolen from a house I own, then a few weeks later, vandals broke in, trashed the place then busted the pipes at the water heater. I had just installed new flooring in the house in preparation for sale. Neither event added up enough to justify a claim on my insurance with the deductible; taken together were talking several thousand.

Good luck in finding your boat; give all the above mentioned authorities the registration numbers as well as the serial numbers for the repower.

Re: Horrible News

Hey guys I have an update it was a false alarm. My grandfather woke up and the boat was not on the lift so he thought it was stolen and he called the Cops and when he had opened the door a letter had fallen off and it was from the neighbor. the neighbors said that the boat was laying up against the bulk head and banging up against there dock. Turns out that the lift cable had snapped and the boat smashed through the wall of the boat house. But its not over yet the boat had been banging up against some ones dock there are two holes along the side of the boat about an inch deep and the are about 3ft above the water line so we are going to the boat repiared and get it gelcoated. If anybody knows a place I can have it repaired please tell. And by the way I'm real sorry about the false alarm. I'll post some pics of the damage

Glad to hear she's back, not that she ever left. It's easy to jump to conclusions these days. Good for your grandfather for trying to help out.

Re: Horrible News

Man, really glad it's basically OK. that would have been a huge loss.

Lambs Yacht Center, 384-5577, have lift and all. Possibly Isle of Pams in Orange Park, Doctors Lake. T & T Fiberglass, 733 4788, but you would probably have to trailer it there. page 239 of the Yellow pages.

Re: Horrible News, updated pictures

i'm going to venture to guess $7-10,000 in damages, to fully repair. the boat will have to be hauled. most of that labor.

Re: Horrible News, updated pictures

any idea why the cable snapped?

When I used to install hoists in boathouses, we always provided a pair of "storage bunks" in the system. With those, you lowered the boat down onto the bunks to release the cable tension if storing more than a couple days...also up here the winter snow load on the boathouse roof +the weight of the boat in the winter was not good combo therefore the storage bunks.

Re: Horrible News, updated pictures

Someone or something turned the port side lift motor on and the it just kept on going up untill the front cable had snapped and the boat fell. One thing that I think is pretty cool Is when the boat fell its port side slammed into one of the pilings and where it ripped a whole lot of wood offbut didn't do any damage to the pory side of the boat. Those pics were taken from the starbord side. Just goes to show Formula made a good strong boat. It such a good boat to its worth fixing. Its ride is so smooth it has 24in of deadrise at the stern while most new cruisers only have 18inc. Anyway my grandfather called the lift guyand were going to get up on the lift again that way its out of the water. Then my grandfather is going to call around for fiberglass repair people. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks Dan

Re: Horrible News, updated pictures

i had a similar problem with my davits . a cat jumped onto the davit pad and struck the switch to the on position ,luckily i was under our chikee hut having a beer and was able to stop it .i now shut the power @ the fuse/breaker box in the house. also will deter any thief from putting the boat down and taking it..
