Hello pirate. Just a guess here but it sounds like the engine is setting a tad high on the transom. When you go into a turn, you lift one pickup out of the water and the water is being channeled away from the inside pickup. Does it do that in a right turn?

OBJ thanks for your input. Added some more info, motor was trimmed down. Been working on boat and motor for a month. Big believer in preventative maitanence. Being on the water is my therapy do not want more stress. Only tested boat once b4 purchase. Installed a water separator(did not have) and a new fuel filter in motor. May need to run again, noticed Lg public lake was recently treated for hydrilla etc. Hopefully did not damage motor. Ckecked plugs (3 were a little dry) ck'd compression (OK)

You need to find out if it's truly overheating by taking the head temp. when the horn goes off. Either with a thermomelt stick or the old fashioned way of touching the head and seeing if you can hold your finger there for a few seconds without getting burned. If you can't touch it for a second or two without pulling your finger away, it's hot. Also, check your water intakes for obstructions. OBJ sounds like he's got you heading in the right direction with the water pick-up problem, but just trying to cover all the bases. Where is the cavitation plate in relation to the bottom of the hull??

Actually pirate, having the motor trimmed down in a turn is what you want. Trimmed up, the prop would be very pron to cavitate for the same reasons as I suggested for the water pick ups. You don't want to go into a hard turn and have the prop cavitate, could make the boat real squirrelly.

Keep us posted....thanks.
