Horizon 600/900 Fleming problem.

I have a Horizon 600-900 Windless.
The windless works super BUT, at least once a year the Fleming breaks and has to be replaced.
While it is not a difficult job to replace, I just don't think that it should break this often.
It is made of plastic and I can not find one made of metal.

When it is working, it works great, but when the Fleming breaks, I have to manually feed the rope into the locker until the chain catches the gypsy then it is OK.

I have 150' of 1/2" new rope with 15 feet 1/4" chain that goes with the rope and chain Fleming (part Number 6060580).

Does anyone know why this would be braking and where I can get a metal Fleming?

I had no idea what a fleming was so did some research to learn something new today.
The plastic fleming seems to be the weak link in that windless - lots of complaints. Some people say breakage due to kinks/jams in the rode, possibly due to well (locker) not being deep enough.

Yes it does seem to be the weak link. I just can't figure out why it keeps breaking. It really doesn't do that much other than fill in the space and block the rope/chain from wrapping around the gear and jamming.
I did find a stainless steel Fleming that looks like the right size from West Marine. I ordered it and will check and make sure that it is the right size but that should(hopefully) solve the problem. It sure is a pain to have to manually feed the rope into the lock. Once the chain gets engaged, it works just fine.

Oh well......
