Had the outboard on a stand, and my shop door open when an unfortunate turn of events caused a tree to fall into the stand and knock the whole thing over.

Is there anyway to replace the engine pan/lower cowling without pulling the powerhead, I can't see any but I guess I am hoping someone smarter than me will tell me how.

1981 Johnson 115 V4.

How hard is it to pull the power head. I have a FSM.

I am assuming it is remove the lower unit, remove the bolt for the power head and lift with the hoist?

Ouch! The powerhead will have to come off, unless some tin shop expert can fix it in place. Probably not a good idea-as something else may get damaged during the repairs. You should be able to get the powerhead off in about 1 1/2 hours. Might be the perfect time to replace the powerhead base gasket, a common failure item on these V4 crossflows. Look at it as a preventative maintenance project.. The good news is that there are probably many cowling parts for this exact engine, laying in marine salvage yards across the US.

Should be lots of those cowlings laying around.---Location is important.----Gasket will need to be replaced.---Factory gasket is wire re-inforced and much better than aftermarket

Do yourself a huge favor and replace the thermostats when the p'head is off. Much easier to do then.

Can I pull the powerhead with out removing the lower unit or does it need to be pulled as well?
