When I put the foot back up in the motor the two plastic three inch tubes sticking out of the top of the waterpump housing slid easily over the two pipes in the motor. Do they need to be a snug fit?

The plastic tubes are actually used to align the water tubes into the water pump. The sealing takes place by the grommets in the water pump housing around the water tubes.
