I have a '71 Mercury 110 9.9hp that I haven't run for 5-7 years (the first 2 spent 'mostly' covered outside). The power head is in fine shape, but the gear lube had a little water so I decided to inspect the drive shaft & water pump (not equipped to inspect the prop drive--the drives are a little gritty but not too bad). I have replacement seals and parts and all the old parts, I also have the service manual (never done this before), but now I'd rather someone else properly reassemble it (lube, seal, 'locktite', etc). Since the boat and motor are still a bit sentimental, I'd like to get it running for another few years {fer the youngins}. There aren't many outboard service shops in central ohio, so I'm concerned this virtual antique could become a vintage money hole. Anyone here with knowledge &or experience with (finding affordable?) care for small late-60s+early-70s Mercs?

Columbus area, but I'd take this motor anywhere within 2-3 hours if I was convinced I'd find a great solution.

I am famaliar with Columbus... Westerville area. I thought they had a good dealer if I rememebr correctly near a Home Depot/or Builders warehouse off of main drag going into town.<br /><br />Are you planning on using this this summer... msot shops I have heard about are backed up 2-4 weeks... why not wait until she chills down a bit & give them some work in the winter????<br /><br />Might even let you watch & learn a little about your hierloom!<br /><br />I will try to rememeber dealer name.<br /><br /><br /><br />------------------<br />"Keep it between the Bouys & Good Luck"<br /><br />fone_man

That's part of the special treatment I'm hoping (even willing to pay) for (if not an otherwise unbeatable deal). I've taken it to Paul's Marine toward Delaware years prior, but I (mistakenly??) get the idea from them that it'd become a sink-hole, so I'm hoping for some personal experience, referrals, or that gut-feeling I've finally found the "Right" direction. <br /><br />Thanks. I'll watch for a Westerville option.
