Hooks and leader line.

I know we have been thru the floro. line but if I get this right if I am fishing 8lb. mono I should be able to go with 15lb. floro. because the fish will not be able to see it. Plus is it thinner diameter than mono? Also I am going to try the gamakatsu (octopus) hooks #1 are these the type of hooks you do not set the hooks with the rod and just let the fish set it themself? This is mainly for (stripers) I did pick up some p-line and ready to give floro another try Thanks for any help.......

You're right about the visibilty part but the diameter of floro is about the same as mono. I don't know about octopus hook, I think I have some of those smaller size one for drop shotting. Make sure they look about the same as a circle hook, only circle hook set itself.

gf, thanks for the reply I did check the gamakatsu page and as far as I can tell these are not circle hooks seems like they have octopus hooks in both circle and non. Thats ok with me because it is habbit to set hook when I do get bit. I guess I just have to get out and try the new set-up all this is getting set-up because I have caught tons of stripers but I want a 20lb.+ Thanks again.......

I don't know about CA but I've seen those In-Fisherman show where they fished on the Cumberland river in KY and some lake in Virginia. They used planer boards and big live shads (ones that you have to catch with rod and reel), man those were monsters they were catching. We want some pics if you do get a biggun.

Thanks Guys if I do get any of size will send in some photos. Here in California we do have a couple lakes where you have a real good chance of fish in the 20lb.+ range. I have a 17ft. i/o but I just set up a jon boat with a small ob. and a trolling motor with the i/o just could not troll slow enough or tight up against the deep walls and points. But with the little jon it should work out great I hoped Thanks again...

theres alot of lakes here with some big ones in them we use to catch some big ones when i was a kid.alot people around here use big shad or bluegills for bait for them,ive caught 15lb to 20lbers on crankbaits while bassfishing talk about a fight.good luck hope ya catch some.
