Re: Honda with a skip

What do you mean by "skips"? This engine is largely monitored and regulated by the ECM.If that ECM is being told that this engine is doing something it needs to correct it will make that correction. All that info is provided to that ECM by sensors that rely on VERY clean battery voltage to function.SO, how old are those batteries, how clean are those terminal ends, and are we seeing any MIL lights at the dash?

What i mean by skips is that it does not idle smooth.I dont have mil lights. The battery is 2 years old and the terminals are clean and is always fully charged with a trickle charger. Thanks

hondon I made sure the battery was ok and clean and it was.Started troubleshooting from the book again and everything checked except the injectors. They all sound the same but the book says they should ohm between 11.1 and 12.3 ohms.Three of the injectors read 14.5 and one of them ohms 15.3 could this be the problem? Thanks for any help.

Ohms values can vary greatly depending on the meter you use and the way that you use it.I have not yet had to change an injector on one of these units and certainly not three at a time.Back up to the basics. How is that compression? How do those plugs look when they come out of the head?Do we have some crappy fuel?Is this something new? When is the last time those valves were adjusted ,or maintainence done on this engine? How,where, and why did you do a vaccum test on this engine?

I used a fluke meter.Compression was checked monday 165 on each cyl(I thought a burnt valve). The fuel is good because i use it year round. The plugs are very clean and was changed recently, the ones that was taken out was very clean also.I have owned the engine for a year and I cant say when the valves have been adjusted. No this is not new its been idleing rough for 6 mths.and Ive been trying to find the problem that long.It runs great on the open water does not sputter, nor does it cut off at idle. Its runs like a 2 stroke at idle (when a 2 stroke loads up when trolling). Thanks

So ,adjust the valves.Remember, as these valves wear in they get tighter, leading to hard starting and POOR IDLE.Without the MIL light you are operating blind as far as these types of failures go.You may well have a faulty sensor. The check engine light will tell you that much.So what happened to that light?

Just wanted to let you know I adjusted the valves today and in the yard running with a hose pipe it ran great. The valves were tight. Thanks
