Any one have any advice on if there is a difference in the 05 or 06 4 stroke engines between these two manufacturers? I have narrowed it down to one of these two models. One engine better than another? Repair issues?

Thanks.

Re: Honda vs Yamaha

HI,
I have two of the hondas a f12 and a f12X and they are very well built. My brother in law has a vx110 yamaha and that is also a very nice jetski.
it is the budget unit for yamaha and does not have the extras that the honda has but it is less expensive. Yamaha also makes better equipped ones than the VX110.I rode the yamaha and the honda and liked the honda better, it felt lighter and turned better also it was more stable.
Yamaha also makes a very good jetski i do not think you would do wrong with either one. one thing on the higher horsepower Yamaha units is that they rev kinda high and use a gear reducer to the pump, that seems to be just another thing to fail. according to the local yamaha dealer they do not have many problems with them. either way you will not go wrong, also look at the Kawasaki, I would have looked at one but the dealer here is not very strong in watercraft.
let us know what you buy. I love my Honda's

Mike

I can only speak from experience, on the Yamaha side.

We own three PWC's. Two Sea Doos and one Yam. The Yam, has by far been the most troublesome.

The Sea Doos have been trouble free-absolutely.

We also own a Honda outboard. It has been a pain.

I also had Sea Doo's
they were fast and handled the best of any PWC but they required the most maintenance. Yamaha has one of the best reputations for trouble free service. The Hondas also have a good record. In all I would not buy anything but a four stroke

Mike

honda kawasaki and yamaha are a safe bet, if in salt water avoid the honda turbo, the non turbo seems to be fine, Im looking real closely at the kawasaki myself the stx12f seems to be priced with the yamaha 110, but with more options .

I really like the Kawasaki STX15F, great performance and reasonably trouble free if treated properly, i.e carefully flushed and maintained as per the book.

Re: Honda vs Yamaha

I just recently decided on a gtx 4tec limited and it is a big monster, dang near 1000 pounds the opas sucked big time and in all fairness I did try to use it but it slowed down the ski and over steers at high speed, since I OWN COBRA JET STEERING I removed the opas and installed my steering now I am happy with the ski, it gets awsome gas mileage and being a non supercharged ski it still hits 55 to 57 mph depending on the fuel in the tank I have put on 20 hours on the clock driving it hard as heck. and it is so far a good ski , I just wish it wasn't so heavy as I have to really work at getting good air on jumps, I am hearing that sea doo is putting the same engine in a smaller hull and this may be my next choice in the near future. I let a girl ride my sea doo who owns a non turbo 2 seat honda and she loved my ski compared to her honda. just for what it,s worth.
