Is anyone using a Honda Odessey to tow with? I'm curious how much weight you may be towing and how well it does. Looking at using my 2001 Odessey to tow a 20' Wellcraft, about 3,400# - near the 3,500# capacity!

Thanks!

does 3,400 lbs include the trailer, gas, and odds and ends?
i suspect you are way over towing cpacity when you add up the total towed weight.

Forget it. You need a vehicle with more towing capacity.

Howdy, PM. It is really confusing if you post the same question on two different fora. It makes it impossible for responders to conduct a conversation on your question.

In this case either here or Trailers would work, but both doesn't.

Good luck. :)

Definately need more vehicle. I towed a Wellcraft a couple times a few years ago with a Dodge Dakota with a v-6. Nearly blew the motor up, on the highway I'd approach an incline at 55 and by the time I was at the top I was doing like 30. Bought a Chevy with a 350.

PM,

Good rule of thumb is tow up to 75% of listed capacity. And don't forget to add up all the weight (and check on scales). Boat, trailer, fuel, water, toys, and gear. My 3800# boat goes down the road at nearly 6500 pounds.

Keep in mind that although you may have the power to make it GO, making it STOP is more important, and your Honda isn't braked for the kind of load you imagine. Safe bet is a stout midsized ute at minimum, and better yet, a 3/4 ton truck.

Phamlyman,

I would bet your towed weight is much greater than what you think it is. Finger Lakes Boater makes some very good observations. Just because it will pull it doesn't mean it will stop it. You DO NOT want to find out the hard way.

Get your rig weighed as it would be "ready to go". You can find scales at truck stops and moving companies. It will cost you about $20.00, however knowledge is worth its weight in gold.

an additional thought is that there should be a gross vehicle weight for your tow vehicle. this is the combined weight of the loaded tow vehicle plus the loaded trailer. i think your gross vehicle weight is going to exceed the alowable gross vehicle weight for your tow car. check it out.
